Home sweet home

Now it's time to catch up on all the holiday chores! My favourite one is sorting my holiday photos. I like to go through and only keep the good ones.

What have you been doing in your holidays? Any adventures? or lots of chores? Leave a comment and tell me (and the Lorax) what you've been doing!

See you all next Monday!

Whaea Alice and Lorax

Kerala houseboat

We drove from one extreme to the other today. From the cool misty mountains to the hot humid waterways of Kerala's backwaters. There are hundreds of rivers and man-made canals alongside rice paddies (or fields). We stayed on a houseboat - these are a popular holiday attraction for international and Indian tourists. The boats originally carried rice along the canals.

We watched a beautiful sunset over the flooded rice paddies. The sky changed from blue to grey to orange to mango to red before it got too dark to read. Then the bugs came... We could hear them swarming away from the boat luckily they were not biting insects!

I'm ready a book about a girl who is not allowed to go to school just because she is a girl. It's very interesting and I'm learning lots about different parts of the world. I think it's helping my reading stamina.

What are you reading these holidays? If u find a good book write it down and we can have a Book Sale when we get back to school.

Welcome to Kerala

Yesterday we flew from Mumbai to Kochin about 2hrs south. On arriving, we got picked up by our car and driver for the next 6 days, Riyas . He drove us through palm trees, brightly coloured houses, wide rivers and up up up until we reached a highest hotel in the region.

At the start of the drive is was muggy, hot and sticky by the end it was cool, misty and very very green.

Today we are going to explore some tea plantations and spice growing farms. I can't wait!

Wedding parties

The last few days the lorax and I have been busy with parties for my friend's wedding. Tonight we are all wearing traditional Indian sarees to the reception. It is made of one LONG piece of fabric and worn by women so I couldn't get one for the lorax!

Elephanta Island

We took a trip out to an island 7km off the coast of Mumbai. We went on a double decker ferry boat and it took an hour, it felt like 2hours because it was so hot sitting in the sun on top of the ferry. When we got there, we walked down a long pier and then up 120steps. Finally we had reached what we came to see...

Giant Hindu statues carved inside a cave that was as big as a rugby field. All the carvings told stories of the Hindu religion.

Most people in this part of India are Hindu or Muslim so they don't celebrate Easter, but they have other festivals at temples and places like these caves. I  hope you all have a lovely Easter break! Thanks for all your comments!

Henna

Today I went to a vanne tanne celebration for my friend who is getting married. It is the bride's party and all the women get henna on their hands like this:

It looks messy in this photo, but it is very beautiful. The patterns are very detailed. It tickles a little bit when it goes on but you have to stay very still! Thanks for your comments Kensie, Sonya and Logan R!
